Work-at-Home Business Kids

Is being a work at home mom leaving you with hesitations about taking time away from your children?

Try to involve your kids in your work if you can. My younger ones have folded newsletters, and sealed and stamped envelopes. Older children can file, help with computer tasks, even undertake creative assignments. And a sole proprietor work-at-home mother can pay them a fair wage for those tasks and enjoy a tax savings (check with your tax professional for details).

But even if you can’t literally involve your children because of age or work type, engage them in the mission of your home based business as much as possible. Familiarize them with your work, what you do and why you like it. Share with them the benefits to you personally and to the family inherent in your role as a work at home mother. The age of your children will dictate how much of this you can do, but don’t neglect to revisit this periodically as they advance in age and understanding.

My children like being part of the big picture. They like being business kids!

This is a really great idea! My one is old enough but the other is way too little at this time – but this will be great for the future!

My 3 year old came out of his room the other day and saw me at the computer. “Oh, are you writing already, Mama?”

My kids don`t participate in my work, but they understand that my job is writing. They also know that if they need me, I`m right there for them, which I think is very important. They don`t mind playing on their own as long as they know that if they need a hand, Mama is willing to leave the computer and give it to them.

I agree with the idea as my wife and I tend to let our kids into understanding the business aspect of things. I even let my teenage kids read books like “Rich Kid, Smart Kid” by Robert Kiyosaki and “Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens” by Sean Covey. It’s so much fun having the family involve in the business.

I totally agree. It’s best to involve our kids in our work. Aside from the learning they get from our work, we will have a good time together.

What a great post! I try to involve my son whenever I can. He just started taking a computer programing course at school where he’ll be learning how to make basic websites. I told him that if he learned how to make a website, I’d pay him to create a couple for me.
